The dangers of sleepy driving

Just about everyone you talk to could use a little more sleep, but do you know when you are too tired to drive? Global statistics show that fatigue is responsible for 30% of the deaths on the world’s roads. Those most at risk are those that are sleep deprived, or those who have a sleep disorder. There are also certain times during the day when people are more at risk for falling asleep. Shift workers for example are at risk for falling asleep, and coming home from work early in the morning after working all night.

When many people feel themselves becoming sleepy in the car, they will try a number of remedies, like turning the radio on and rolling open the window. These remedies are however, minimally effective. The most effective thing to do is to pull over and take a nap. Another key strategy is to have a coffee before you sleep. That way, when you wake up the caffeine will be in your system before you drive off. Moreover, talk shows are more apt to keep you up than music.

Some signals of low alertness and sleepiness are: level of steering wheel control. Those who are sleepy have more difficulty straightening the wheel. Moreover, if your eyelids sag, it means you are sleepy. Sleeping at the wheel is a huge problem, a number of accidents are caused by this, and moreover, it is more common than alcohol related accidents.

How to dispose of used tires

So you are looking to get rid of your tire. You just need to know how to do it. It’s great that you want to know how because disposing of these tires properly can help to prevent the harmful effects on the environment. Its for this very reason that the government regulates tire disposal practices. Therefore its important for car owners to know the proper way to dispose of them, not on for the governments sake but for your own sake. Now, lets get started :

  • If you want, you don’t have to chuck that tire out after all, clean the old tires using warm soap and water. Then place it in your garden! No, really, you can use the tire. Fill it up with some good soil, then add some nice plants or flowers. You can then cover the actual tire with the soil to make a nice mound.
  • Do you have kids? Pets? Well, clean the tire and use it as a training obstacle! I know you have seen this on TV, and it is really a cheap way to make the training obstacle. For this one you will need more than a few, so save your used tires.
  • Bring your used tires to a local recycling facility, tire retailer, or service station. Somewhere that accepts tires and then recycles them. As a warning, most tire retailers expect that you purchase a new tire before they take your old one.
  • There are local municipalities that offer tire amnesty. These places allow you to bring in a certain number of tires to drop off for free! If you wish to dispose of a large number of tires, contact your solid waste management agency.
  • When you recycle it decreases air pollution, water, and soil contamination. Sell the tires for them to make new tires with.
  • You can use the tire to make a tree swing, if you have kids this will be great. Choose your tree, one with a very strong branch, and choose whether you want a vertical or horizontal swing. Then buy some nylon rope that is made to hold weight. You can contact a professional to tie it on for you.
  • *** remember that burning tires is both illegal and harmful to the environment
  • **** don’t keep old used tires in a pile outside, this is an easy spot for pests.

Checking tires for wear

The only way to get good gas mileage is to have proper tire pressure. If you have low tires, there is more drag on the bottom and the engine has to work harder. If you want to become a proper car owner, some good advice is to check your tires once a week.

So how do you do it yourself? Here is how to check for the pressure. Check out your car’s specifications. It will appear on a sticker in your car. Don’t go by the tire manufactures specification; go by that of your own car. Use a pressure gage to check your tire pressure. It will give you the exact reading. Make sure to check all four tires with the pressure gauge.

Now, you may do a tread check. You may choose to do what is called the “penny check” This is how it works: Take Lincoln, and put his head down into the tread, if his head is on the edge of the tread, then you barely have enough tread, if it covers most of his head, you are okay. Now, if you choose to use the old fashioned tread gauge it is 3/32 of an inch, anything less than that and you are in trouble. Some tires have wear pads, and if they start to show through, than you need to change the tire. Another thing to watch out for is damage after hitting an object in the road or hitting a curve, there may be huge damage to the tire, which is very dangerous so check it out. Make sure that you do not over-inflate your tires. It will make them round out and wear terribly unevenly. This is just as bad as not putting in enough air! So, go off to the tire store if you need to, don’t delay.

To find a used tire in abundance and for a good price you must know or learn first on how to do it, efficiently and effective.

Plain and simple, the cities that are underdeveloped and in most cases have a lot of minorities living there, you will have lots of places selling used tires and because of the competition the prices could go down as long you ask for it.

I encourage you to be careful because unfortunately, some places could be a little dangerous. I’m sorry to say it but its a reality and if you don’t know the area just drive in the day time.

The reason I’m saying this is because I drive taxi in the New York and I drive to the sort of underdeveloped nearby cities to find and save a lots of money, that is why my advice hopefully should be well received.

Gosh, there is a lot of money to be saved as long you know some basic tips on how to find the best used tire possible for the lowest price even though with my experience I must say that the new tire is always better.

Regardless, by all means, save all the money you can plus lots of low income families do depend on this type of businesses.

Feel free to comment further about this topic and anyplace near where you live where there is good place to buy a used tire and how to find it.

Finding a used tire in New York City

Well is not difficult to find a used tire in New York. Although in some places like Manhattan, you must be careful other wise you will be in traffic forever and may not find a place to buy the used tire you are looking for.

In Manhattan on the west side of the city is probably the only place where they fix a flat tire and also have used ones for sale as well, but usually they don’t have a lot of choices and some times they don’t have what you need.

Is much easier in the other New York boroughs, because its cheaper to rent places for this type of businesses and you will find places that specifically sell used tires, and some mechanics shops, also places that fix a flat.

All you have to do in the boroughs is drive on the main streets but not the ones that have lots of nice stores. Instead be on the fairly busy streets, but where you will be able to see mechanics and gas stations because most likely nearby there are stores that sell used tires.

In the worst case all you have to do is ask the mechanic or the gas attendant and bingo, they happily appoint you to the nearest one.

The hunt for used tires, appears to be complicated but in fact, once you learn how to find a used tire place in New York you realize how simple it is and it does not take that long.

But still, please don’t be foolish, and be careful. Try to buy the best ones possible since your goal is to save money, don’t be afraid to ask questions to the attendant and get the best used tires for your buck.
